A directional sign with the words advice, support, and guidance.

At Mission of Hope, we are thrilled to introduce our new scholars who have been given the incredible opportunity to pursue higher education through our Scholarship Program. This program is designed to support students from Appalachia in attending college, offering them not only financial assistance but also the invaluable guidance of mentors to help them navigate this significant life transition.

Why Mentorship Matters

For many of our scholars, they are the first in their families to attend college. This milestone is both exciting and challenging, and having a mentor can be the key to their success. Mentors provide more than just academic advice; they offer emotional support, encouragement, and practical assistance in managing the demands of college life. By being a mentor, you play a crucial role in helping these students achieve their dreams and build a brighter future.

What It Takes to Be a Mentor

You might be wondering what being a mentor involves. It’s simpler than you might think, yet profoundly impactful. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Monthly Contact: Reach out to your scholar at least once a month to check in on their progress, offer support, and provide encouragement.
  • Support & Encouragement: Be a source of motivation, reminding them of deadlines, and helping them stay on track with their goals.
  • Good Listener: Sometimes, the best support is simply listening. Be there for your scholar to talk through their challenges and celebrate their successes.
  • Attendance at Scholars Dinner: Join us at the Scholars Dinner on July 25 to connect with your scholar in person and celebrate their achievements.
  • Keep Us Updated: Regularly inform Mission of Hope about your scholar’s needs and progress so we can continue to provide the best support possible.

We Need You

Currently, we are in need of 6 women or couples to mentor our female scholars. This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact in the life of a young student who is embarking on their college journey. Your guidance and support can help them overcome obstacles, stay motivated, and achieve their academic and personal goals.
