Dear Mission of Hope Friends & Golf Classic Supporters:

Unprecedented…Health Crisis…New Normal.

These words have become so familiar and commonplace in our world, yet just a few months ago…we could not have imagined the situation they describe. Throughout this crisis the goal at the Mission of Hope has been to continue to Serve those in need in Rural Appalachia while following the guidance given by Government Authorities, and to play our part in protecting the health of those we Serve, our Partners, our Volunteers and our dedicated Mission of Hope Staff.

The Chick-fil-A & Mission of Hope Golf Classic has enjoyed 16 years of fun and fellowship in support of our Back To School Program. We are so grateful for the Sponsors, Golfers, and Volunteers who made each event a great success.  I realize the tradition and meaning of this wonderful outreach and fundraising event for the MOH, but I also feel without hesitation we have to be good stewards and make wise and sometimes tough decisions. With the unknown trajectory of the Coronavirus, we must be realistic about challenges associated with protecting a large gathering of people like we would have at the Golf Classic.

After much prayer and deliberation, I have decided to cancel the 2020 Golf Classic which was scheduled for Friday, August 14 at Willow Creek Golf Club. Our plan will be to resume our wonderful Golf Classic tradition in 2021. I humbly appeal for your understanding and support of this decision.

The good news at the Mission of Hope…we are well underway with our 2020 Back To School Program preparation. This year we will be providing Backpacks, School Supplies, and Hygiene Items to almost 12,000 students in 30 Rural Elementary Schools in eastern Kentucky and northeastern Tennessee. The way we deliver those supplies and the timing for the delivery may be different than in past years… but we are committed to help these Students at a time that their families are facing new economic and education challenges.

May we humbly ask…that you consider supporting the MOH Back To School Program in a different way this year. A $10 Donation provides one student with a backpack and supplies; $250 supports an entire classroom. Any amount is greatly appreciated. Please visit our website at missionofhope.org/donate or call our office at (865) 584-7571 for ways to donate.

As we move forward, the most important way you can help is with your fervent Prayers for not only those we Serve…but also for the MOH Staff, Volunteers, and Supporters.

Thank You For Your Special Friendship And Compassionate Support….In Helping Us Extend The HOPE In Rural Appalachia.

Sincerest Regards,
Emmette Thompson
Executive Director
