Today, we pause to give thanks for the brave men and women who have served and who continue to serve our nation. Their courage, sacrifice, and commitment protect the freedoms we are blessed to enjoy each day. We are especially grateful for the Veterans who are part of our Mission of Hope family — including many who volunteer with us, offering their time, strength, and compassion to help bring HOPE to others.

Veterans remind us of what it means to serve with purpose and to live with dedication to something greater than ourselves. As we reflect today, may we lift them up in prayer and offer our sincere gratitude for all they have given.

Below is a special poem shared by our Director Emeritus, Emmette Thompson, that encourages us to recognize and thank those who have served. Its message is as meaningful today as when he first shared it:

Take A Moment To Thank A Veteran

When you see someone in a uniform,
Someone who serves us all,
Doing military duty,
Answering their country’s call,

Take a moment to thank them
For protecting what you hold dear;
Tell them you are proud of them;
Make it very clear.

Just tap them on the shoulder,
Give a smile, and say,
“Thanks for what you’re doing
To keep us safe in the USA!”

As we honor our Veterans, may we also consider how we can serve. Many Veterans find purpose and community by volunteering with Mission of Hope — and their presence is a blessing.

May God bless and protect our nation and fill our hearts with HOPE today and every day.
