May is Scholarship Month at Mission of Hope — a time to shine a spotlight on one of our most life-changing outreach efforts.

Since 2009, the Mission of Hope Scholarship Program has been helping high school seniors in rural Appalachian communities pursue higher education and break the cycle of poverty. For many of our scholars, this opportunity marks a first — the first in their family to attend college, the first step toward a stable career, and the first real glimpse of a brighter future.

Through generous support from donors and volunteers, Mission of Hope has awarded scholarships to students across Tennessee and Kentucky. Each year, one graduating senior from each high school we serve is selected to receive a scholarship. But our support doesn’t stop there.

More Than Just Tuition

Our scholars receive much more than a check. We equip them with:

  • A laptop and printer to help them succeed in their coursework
  • Mentorship from a caring adult who encourages them along the way
  • And most importantly — prayer and community support as they navigate this new chapter

In 2024, we celebrated the graduation of our 100th scholar. These students have gone on to earn associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees, as well as certifications in a wide variety of fields — from nursing and business to welding and diesel mechanics. Some are now giving back to their own communities, passing on the hope that was once extended to them.

The Mission of Hope Trades Scholarship

In 2025, we introduced the Trades Scholarship, designed specifically for students entering accredited vocational and technical training programs. These scholarships help students pursue in-demand careers in fields such as HVAC, truck driving, welding, and industrial machinery.

Whether a student dreams of college or a skilled trade, Mission of Hope is committed to helping them take the next step.

How You Can Make a Difference

Want to be part of this life-changing mission? Here are three ways you can help:

  1. Donate – Your financial gift supports the tuition, technology, and tools our scholars need to thrive.
  2. Mentor – Volunteer as a Mission of Hope Mentor and walk alongside a student on their journey.
  3. Pray – Lift up our students in prayer as they study, work, and pursue their goals.

We also encourage you to spread the word about the Mission of Hope Scholarship Program. Tell a friend. Share on social media. Invite others to get involved.

Together, we can make an eternal difference — one student at a time.
