The Mission of Hope family joins our community in remembering and celebrating the life of longtime WBIR news anchor and friend, Bill Williams, who passed away on August 18, 2025. Bill was more than a trusted journalist—he was a man with a heart for helping others, especially children.
Through his Monday’s Child segment, Bill shared the stories of children waiting to be adopted. Week after week, he gave a voice to those who needed it most. Because of his efforts, more than 1,000 children found loving homes. His compassion made a lasting difference in their lives and in the lives of the families who welcomed them.
Bill also cared deeply about families in rural Appalachia. His Hunger for Hope stories shined a light on the struggles of those living in poverty and helped inspire what would become Mission of Hope. His storytelling reminded people across East Tennessee that we are called to care for our neighbors and give hope where it is needed most.
Our own Director Emeritus, Emmette Thompson, had the privilege of working closely with Bill over the years. Their friendship grew out of a shared calling to serve others and to bring hope to children and families. As Emmette has shared, Bill’s compassion and encouragement were instrumental in helping Mission of Hope grow into the ministry it is today.
Bill Williams leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and love. At Mission of Hope, we are forever grateful for his partnership and the countless lives touched through his work.
