Growing up in a small Appalachian community can bring its share of challenges, but it can also teach the importance of family, perseverance, and caring for others.

In the latest episode of Stories of the HOPE, host Benson Gregory sits down with Mission of HOPE scholar Crissy Blevins from Owsley County, Kentucky, to talk about her upbringing, her educational journey, and the people who helped shape her life.

A Story of Family and Determination

Crissy grew up in Owsley County, where opportunities and resources can be limited. Raised by her grandparents, she learned early in life the importance of family and responsibility.

Her grandparents encouraged her to pursue activities she enjoyed, including volleyball and theater, while helping her navigate some difficult circumstances. Crissy also took on family responsibilities at a young age, learning lessons in compassion, strength, and perseverance.

Despite the challenges she faced, Crissy has continued to pursue her education and build a future filled with possibilities. Today, she is working toward two master’s degrees.

The Power of Encouragement

At Mission of HOPE, we believe every young person deserves the opportunity to pursue their dreams, regardless of where they grow up or the challenges they face.

Through our College Scholarship Program, we have the privilege of walking alongside students like Crissy, providing financial assistance, mentorship, and encouragement as they work toward their goals.

Crissy’s story is a wonderful reminder of why this program matters. Behind every scholarship is a young person with a story, a family, and dreams for the future.
